Call for applications

November 28, 2007

Artscape is pleased to announce that applications for their Green Arts Barns work-only studios and rent-geared-to-income live/work studios for professional artists are now available. Tenants of the Green Arts Barns will contribute to the creative synergy, imagination and community that will transform Toronto’s historic Wychwood TTC Streetcar Repair Barns in the St. Clair and Bathurst neighbourhood into a model for innovative creative redevelopment in North America.

Located at 76 Wychwood Avenue, south of St. Clair and west of Bathurst, Artscape’s Green Arts Barns will employ green technology and be the first heritage building in Toronto to achieve LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification. Construction is scheduled to be complete by fall 2008.

The Green Arts Barns will be a multi-faced community centre and unique meeting place where arts and culture, environmental leadership, heritage preservation, urban agriculture and affordable housing will be brought together.

How to apply:
If you are a professional artist interested in applying for a work-only studio or RGI live/work studio at the Green Arts Barns, check out the website for applications and answers to frequently asked questions. There will be up to 15 artist work-only studios leased to artists at below-market rates and 26 artist live/work studios leased to artists and their families on an RGI basis. Applications are due by January 31, 2008 at 5:00 p.m.

If you’re not an artist but think the Green Arts Barns is a great idea, Artscape has created a few avenues for support, including donations, calendars and aprons. Go here to find out more.
