Treecycle

December 27, 2007

So…it’s over for another year. Now what? The City of Toronto’s Christmas tree recycling program offers residents a convenient and environmentally sensitive way to dispose of Christmas trees after the holidays. You can compost your own greenery (fir trees, wreaths and boughs) for mulch in your garden, or put it out for city collection during the first and second weeks of January (check your local collection calendar for regularly scheduled collection days).

Remember to remove all decorations, lights, nails, stands and wire and refrain from putting your tree in a plastic bag. Collected Christmas trees are shredded into wood chips and used as mulch around plants and trees in local parks or distributed to residents in the spring through Toronto’s free compost distribution program.
