Energy Conservation Week in Ontario

Energy Conservation Week in Ontario kicked off yesterday. The province-wide initiative combines awareness building, events and specific measures to help Ontario better manage its summer peak and build towards a “culture of conservation” to conserve electricity, save money and benefit our environment.

Hydro One Most Valuable Power$aver Contest
During Energy Conservation Week, residents can enter Hydro One’s Most Valuable Power$aver contest to win a $10,000 energy efficient backyard makeover. Describe how you conserve or reduce your electricity use by video, pic or email . No backyard? You can donate the prize within your community.

Electricity Impact Day - May 26
Electricity Impact Day activities will focus on providing knowledge to Ontario’s schools, government buildings and libraries on how to reduce electricity consumption.

Tieless Tuesday - May 27
A tie is formality defined and often loosened or removed for comfort. Tieless Tuesdays encourage Ontario businesses to conserve energy by turning air conditioners up two degrees and promoting casual, relaxed attire throughout summer.

Save the Watt Wednesday
- May 28
Save the Watt Wednesday is designed to provide tips and tricks on how to save energy at home during peak summer demand.

Count Every Kilowatt Day - May 29
A day intended to demonstrate the power of individual initiatives on the province’s overall conservation goals.

Celebrate Action Day - May 30
As the week winds down, programs will focus on what Ontarians can do long-term to ensure the health and sustainability of the grid.
