David Miller to share Toronto green projects

June 20, 2008

Mayor David Miller has been asked to speak about what Torontonians are doing in the fight against climate change at two prominent gatherings of international municipal leaders. On Friday, Mayor Miller will address the third annual Mayor’s Hemispheric Forum and on Sunday, he will join President Bill Clinton and Mayors Richard Daley of Chicago and Antonio Villaraigosa of Los Angeles in a plenary session at the 76th annual U.S. Conference of Mayors.

“These two events present Toronto with a unique opportunity to share with these mayors what our city is doing to combat the threat of climate change,” said Mayor Miller. “Climate change is the issue of our time, possibly of all time, and cities are where real, tangible action can and is taking place. I’m incredibly proud of what we’re doing in Toronto and these invitations are recognition that we are a world leader on environmental issues.”

Mayor Miller will talk about Toronto’s leadership in waste reduction and recycling, the greening of our fleet and city buildings, Transit City and about the Tower Renewal Project, which will bring energy efficiency, lower operating costs and reduced green house gas emissions to Toronto’s aging apartment buildings.

Mayor Miller was recently appointed to a two-year term as chair of the influential C40 Group of major world cities committed to tackling climate change.
